Look Out for Scammers
Welcome to our blog page. Sydney Computer Help advises you to beware of scammers who phone you and claim that they are from a major technology company and then claim that they have detected problems with your computer. Large technology companies will never phone you to report detected problems with your computer. Under no circumstances, let those callers connect to your computer remotely. If they ask you to navigate to a web site, don’t do so. Never give them your email address, personally identifiable information or passwords. Just terminate the call.
Don’t allow anybody to install remote access software on any of your devices unless you are absolutely sure you know they are somebody you can trust.
If you get a call or message from somebody claiming to be from your bank or other financial institution, tell them you will call them back. Then make sure you call that institution on their REAL phone number and check if it really was them who called you. If you don’t have their genuine phone number on hand, do a web search from a different device and, or, network to find out what it is before you call them back. Don’t click on links in text or email messages. One way to check if a link is malicious, it to copy the link and paste it into the URL checking area of the Virustotal website, accessible at the link the following link. https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url
